The male is bringing in more and more leaves now, as well as the female, a possible sign of coming nest action. Both eagles continue to bring in sticks and leafy branches. Both then struggled to arrange the branch to their liking. He then took it off when we assume he passed it to his new mate.Several people have seen them soaring high over the river, calling together and spiralling higher and higher. The older female seems to have moved in to our male's territory.Several times today, both have been seen on nest 3 (the nest used last year). Before that date, both had been seen in Burns Bay, along the river and in the nest area, but only the male since.
We feel the female had been showing signs of distress for some time and sadly has now disappeared.
Incubation continues, and it is wet and cold today. A sudden gust of wind tossed the female right over the other day, though she resettled, if somewhat ruffled and even embarrassed. It seems that this female has again shown a tactic of delayed incubation and it will be very interesting to see the difference in timing for hatch. We first glimpsed the egg at around pm and assume she laid it shortly before. We supervised several hours of maintenance work on the cameras and their mountings, including cleaning the lens and adjusting the sound.
